Well, I never!  We’ve been rehearsing this show for a while now and are just putting the finishing touches to it – it’s going to be different from anything you’ve seen us perform before and we’re sure that you’re going to enjoy it.  It all started out as an idea for a concert with readings from Agatha Christie books, and songs from the era, but the more we thought about it, the more it seemed a great idea for a full length show.  Obviously, with the subject of murder mystery, it had to be well thought out and the songs had to be just right, but we think that what we’ve created will thrill you from start to finish.  Please let us know what you think via FaceBook, Instagram, or Twitter – we’re always interested in feedback.

Our 2019 Summer production is “Murder Most Musical”. Rehearsals are well underway. We don’t want to give away too much at this stage, keep your eyes peeled on social media for regular updates.

We will be performing at Chinnor Village Hall between the 8th-10th August 2019, tickets on sale soon

If you are a fan of the murder mystery you will be in for a treat as we delve into the realms of the golden age of mystery writing. Featuring songs from all genres with our own Chinnor Musical Theatre spin see if you can solve the mystery before our detective does.

‘Amelie’s Boutique’ was written several years ago by Stephen Chadd and the late Paul Heafey and we are proud to present it to you in memory of Paul, who sadly died earlier this year. We have somewhat revised the script and additional material has been added by Kim Wilcox, although we have kept as faithful to the original script as possible. It tells the story of an aspiring fashion designer who loses everything she holds dear and has to claw her way up from the worse possible situation to become a successful and renowned business owner. Set in the 1980’s, it has a wealth of comedic characters and some fantastic show tunes. We make a fleeting visit back to Paris of the 1950’s to see how Amelie overcame adversity and found happiness at last in a leafy Oxfordshire village. People from all over bustle to visit the shop and buy the beautiful gowns. But things don’t always go to plan…

Bonjour mes amis,

It’s that time again – time to set aside Tuesday evenings to rehearse for our upcoming show – Amelies Boutique! We will begin rehearsing at 7:30 in the upper meeting room in Chinnor Village Hall at 7:30 every Tuesday, starting on 6th March and culminating in 2 performances on 15/16th June 2018.  If you would like to take part, please come along on the first night and we’ll give you a brief idea of what the show is about and we’ll also do some singing!  If you can’t make the first night, but would still like to take part, please let us know, either via the contact page on this website or by searching for Chinnor Musical Theatre on Facebook and leaving us a message. Alternatively, you can send an email to committee@chinnormusicaltheatre.org.uk – for this show we welcome adults of all abilities. We also need help backstage and front of house – as it’s not just the performers who get to have all the fun! If you are lucky enough to get a singing or speaking role there will no doubt be additional rehearsals on some Thursday evenings, so let us know if you are interested in taking a more active role on stage. We have performed this show before but as it is a CMT show we will be able to change it up a bit to suit the characters of the cast, although the story will pretty much remain the same. We are always on the lookout for more men, so if you know someone who might be interested, please bring them along – we don’t bite!

So whether you’re a complete newbie or a seasoned pro we look forward to meeting you!

What are we up to this time?  Well, come along and find out – our latest show is definitely going to be a night to remember!  At this time of year, we perform one of our famous Cabaret shows; a little bit of this and a little bit of that, with a fabulous Ploughmans Supper thrown in to keep you happy.  All this for only £12 – what a bargain!  And this year is no exception – only this time come ready to experience the unexpected!

We are again performing in the beautiful village of Cuddington as we had so much fun there in the summer.  This theatre has everything we need to give you the best evenings entertainment; a lovely atmosphere, lighting, and stage.  Please be aware though, that the parking outside is very limited and reserved for those who have limited mobility. Parking can be found at the playing field & clubhouse nearby (off of Bernard Close) and elsewhere, but please be mindful of local residents.

Get your tickets as soon as you can – seating is limited due to the table arrangements.  It’ll be worth it though.  We can’t wait to see you all.

Tribute! – A Roaring Success

What a fantastic time we had putting on our recent show – Tribute! We rehearsed long and hard, which as we were such a small cast meant a lot of effort was put in by all members of CMT.  We received such fantastic comments from our audiences, it truly overwhelmed us.  A particularly special review has been included on our NEWS page for you to read – it really meant an awful lot to us.  In fact, we received such high praise overall, that we are considering performing the show in a couple of other venues later in the summer, so we can bring our fantastic show to more audiences.  Watch this space!

We’d like to thank all the people who helped us off stage – the lighting, sound, stage management, front of house, printing, painting, computer skills, the raffle prizes, the bar staff and all those who gave us their precious time and loaned us costumes or props; we appreciate all of you immensely. We really couldn’t do it without you!

I’d like to offer my own personal gratitude to all the cast members, who really stepped up to the mark for the performances; you were all stars in your own right and made me and CMT very proud.  It was an absolute pleasure to work with you all.  I’d like to also to say a big thank-you to Stephen Chadd, who directed the show and made mine and Ashling Smiths’ writing come to life. Great Evenings Entertainment!

We have had a wealth of fabulous comments from our audiences for our recent production of Tribute! in Cuddington (June 2017), but it is always lovely to receive a written review.  It means so much to the whole society and shows us that all the hard work we put into it is totally worth it.  Below is the email we received from one of our previous members (which makes is even more meaningful) and I am proud to share it with you all.
Dear Kim, Ashling, Stephen and All the Cast and Crew
Just wanted to congratulate CMT on such a great evening’s entertainment on Sat night.
I really enjoyed the whole set up – a great little inclusive-type venue with lovely front of house facilities – I gather it was a little tight on space back-stage – but it’s good to look after the audience! Professional lighting, loved the projections – really added to the feel, and excellent sound throughout.
The programme was a fabulous mixture for young and old, ancient (!) and modern, all held together cleverly with the cinema theme thread.
I am not going to pick out any solo singing performances – but it was great to see some fresh new talented faces – all shining alongside the fresh slightly older faces too, and have to say young Frankie was excellent, and always in character.
The chorus work was all of a good high standard, especially the harmonies in the Mary Poppins medley, Pure Imagination and Pirate King, and Hugh and Terry are invaluable!
Lots else besides – but if I start mentioning too many individual items I will disappoint those that get left out. Several pieces had great movement – 42nd St and Follow the Band to name two and I have to say I loved the Cell Block Tango – very well executed.
The general feel was of a bunch of talented people all doing a great job and enjoying themselves to boot. The overall sound was brilliant and for a small group, the volume and harmony produced was excellent.
It would seem too good a show to only put on twice for the select few in Cuddington. Am sure if you found some other similar village venues during the summer or Autumn period it could be popular there as well.

TRIBUTE! A musical Extravaganza – 16/17 June 2017

Come along and enjoy our latest show, a fun and frolicsome look at Movie Musicals through the decades.  We have been working so hard to make this show a spectacular event; there is something for everyone.  Some or our all time favourites worked into a  wonderful story of an old man’s memories of his time as a projectionist. There are plenty of solos, duets, trios and stirring chorus numbers – happy,  sad and just plain funny.  We look forward to seeing you at a new venue also; we were unable to hire Chinnor Village Hall, so we have upped sticks and moved a few miles away to the beautiful village of Cuddington.  The Bernard Hall in the heart of the village is a delightful venue with a dedicated stage and fabulous sound and lighting and we are really looking forward to performing there. Tickets are available on the website and are priced at £10 and there will be a licensed bar for your refreshment. Please be advised that parking is very limited, so try to arrive early and, as the village isn’t very big, those that are able should park a little further away from the hall to enable those less agile to park closer.  Of course, you could gather a group of you and share your transport!
