Hello all,
Summer is truly over (it snowed!) but that doesn't mean to say that the memories of the summer are gone. We had a fantastic Summer Concert which for the first time lasted more than one night, a formula which we all think worked extremely well and will be using again next year. This summer we also managed to keep in touch with the fun social events or even just popping to the pub. "It is always nice to socialize with CMT because you don't just do musical theatre with them; they also become your friends."
Below are some useful dates for your diary.
Dates:
Tuesday 25th November - Saturday 29th November - Show week! This year's November Show was written and directed by Ashling and Ian, they have done a fantastic job as I'm sure everyone will agree and we would like to let them know how much we appreciate all the time and hard work they have put into planning it. The synopsis of this show is as follows: Two middle-aged friends contact each other via the internet. Having ended their relationship several years before in order to seek fame and fortune, both soon discover that even though they have since had very different experiences in life, their past still holds a special place in their hearts and has in fact shaped who they are now.
"You are probably aware of the current refurbishment of Chinnor Village hall and we are looking forward to using the new improved facilities there for our shows next year. Unfortunately the work going on there now means we cannot use the hall for this year's November show so we are temporarily relocating 2 miles down the road to Bledlow Village hall. Due to the change of venue we will not be able to serve food and offer our usual supper service but we can promise our usual fun evening of songs old and new, dancing and sketches to entertain you. We look forward to seeing you at Bledlow!"
Tickets are just £8 book now!
Dates:
16th December at Towersey Church
We will be having our annual Carol singing get together, a chance to wish friends Merry Christmas and eat lots of mince pies!
Dates:
Wednesday 8th April - Saturday 11th April with matinees on Good Friday and Saturday -Show week! This years Easter show will be Anything Goes, "The story concerns madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy #13 Moonface Martin aid Billy in his quest to win Hope. The musical introduced such songs as "Anything Goes", "You're the Top", and "I Get a Kick out of You"." Chinnor Musical Theatre performed this show 10 years ago and due to its success we will be performing it again! Auditions (including dance auditions) will take place the first week back after Christmas; audition pieces will be set first week back after the November Show.
The show will be Directed/Choregraphed by John Canepa and Musical Director is our very own Hannah with Auditions taking place in January.
Do you have the urge to Direct???
Volunteers are required to direct next years summer concert and November Show so if you have an idea for a show or feel the urge to step into the directors chair please contact the committee via email ASAP!
From our Treasurer Stella:
Calling All Past Members of CMT (and COS)
Following the last AGM it was decided to alter the membership subscriptions. This was primarily to reflect the general change in amateur societies, which has led to a far more nomadic membership, allowing people to "shop around" and perform with a variety of societies.
The annual subscription rate is now only £20 per year, rather than iro of £70 as in the past. However, as an incentive to persuade people to set up direct debit mandates for continuing membership, once the first £20 has been paid subsequent years under direct debit will only be £10. In addition to this, individual show fees are set for the different types of performance held.
I am appealing to everyone who has benefited from their time as a previous member and enjoyed being able to perform, to consider supporting CMT by either becoming a patron, or by continuing as a member, (bearing in mind that it is no longer quite such a financial commitment). Especially, if you are involved with any affiliated ventures such as the small concerts which are done in our name and often using CMT equipment.
There are 2 reasons behind this appeal:
1. You may be aware that in the last 18 months CMT temporarily lost their main performance venue. (Lord Bills) This led to a considerable loss of audience, and thence to decreased revenue. We have now also lost Chinnor Village Hall as a venue for our main fundraiser in November, which will also have a knock on effect as we are in a much smaller hall. Next year's main show will also have to be held at Wheatley Park as Lord Bills is not guaranteed to be finished. These factors are all leading to a real stretch in the financial status of the Society.
2. As next year is the 40th birthday of the society it is planned to have a fantastic gala event, probably to be held in May. This will be open to all past and present members - but the ticket prices will be cheaper if you are a current member - for obvious reasons. We are also hoping to arrange more social and fundraising events in the forthcoming year.
I would be very grateful to receive any cheques in the near future, or you can pay on line through the website via PayPal.
Many thanks - Stella Jackson (Treasurer CMT)
Wardrobe
The wardrobe was a mess, it is not so now! If any of you have ventured there for costumes for the November show you might notice that it is extremely tidy and ordered! Unlike the chaos that it was before! This clear out was thanks to Stephen, Nigel, James and Me!
A Word from Our Chairman
Hello Everyone, I cannot believe that the November show has come around again, this year we are at Bledlow due to the work being done at Chinnor Village Hall. Next year is CMT's 40th Anniversary and we are planning to hold a special celebration for members old and new at the beginning of the summer, venue and date to be decided before Christmas. We are also planning on holding a Grand Prize Draw next year to celebrate the 40th Anniversary and to raise funds for the next 40 years. Thanks to everyone's hard work over the past few months with getting things ready for the November Show and general day to day running!
